9/01/2010 10M Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in KE6YHX and WB6IXN.   Vacations & gud TV shows must have kept OPs away from their rigs tonite!  YHX is looking for a breadboard on which he will assemble the parts for his new seismometer, and IXN asked Corey to assume NC duties next Wed. eve. for the 2m Net...YHX agreed(Tnx, Corey!).  YHX is still developing a plan for proper grounding of antennas & RF equipment in the shack, and IXN heard AF6C and YHX S8 tonite!  Bob & Corey both experienced QRN at the QTH tonite!  AF6C said he may have a breadboard lying around the shack that might interest YHX, and, brother Lee & IXN will be in the San Jacinto Mts. for 4 days including Labor day.  IXN alerted OPs abt increasing seismic activity over the entire State of California!

 

9/01/2010 2M Phone Net – W6ZE/WB6IXN checked in W6GMU, N8UZE, KE6YHX, AF6CF, and AF6C.  GMU is researching towers and antennas fer the shack, and IXN told Paul abt ‘Pair Production’ for the conversion of energy to mass.  UZE will pick up the OM Friday nite at John Wayne Airport, and Dee will soon move into a new QTH at Red Hill & Walnut.  After construction, YHX will mount the new seismometer on a metal plate under the QTH, and Corey told OPs abt a breadboard with spring mounts.  CF and all OPs checked in wid 5/9 sigs at NC’s QTH, and Nicholas has been busy at work.  AF6C told Dee abt the Wild Animal Park near San Diego, and the San Diego Botanical Gardens when UZE & OM visit the San Diego Zoo…And Bob said that COAR paid tribute to Silent Key WV6V.  AF6C experienced higher-than-usual SWR on 10m tonite, and Bob asks interested OPs to volunteer time to repair audio book machines for the blind at the Braille Institute!  AF6C then aired the Aug. 26 ARRL Audio News at 20:56 hrs. local time…The Pakistan AR Society moves into high gear to supply emergency communications for flood ravaged Pakistan wid landlines & cellular systems all down!...More info, in the Aug. 26 ARRL Letter…The Autumnal Equinox is Sept. 23…(Tnx, Bob!)  The ARRL Audio News concluded at 21:11 hrs local time.

 

9/98/2010 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in W6HHC and KE6YHX.   IXN & Lee were up in the San Jacinto Mts.   Other OPs were probably watching the U. S. Open Tennis matches in NYC, or other sports events. Ken W6HHC reported that he finally put his Cushcraft Vertical back up...now that the back-yard patio cover had been nicely replaced.

 

9/08/2010 2m Phone Net – We thank Corey, KE6YHX, for NC duties tonite.  IXN & brother, Lee, were in the Santa Ana Mts.  W6ZE/KE6YHX checked in N8UZE, W6GMU, W6HHC, AF6C, and AF6CF.  Dee, UZE, has moved to her new location, and she and the OM had a busy week hiking, going to the San Diego Zoo, and settling in at her new QTH.  GMU mentioned the All-Asian Contest, which was mostly with old-timers.  HHC got the 10m vertical ant. back up, which he straightened from wind damage in 2003.  AF6C continues volunteer work at the Braille Institute, getting torque wrenches, repairing their book readers, and setting up new ones.  AF6CF wants more OPs to check in to the Thursday Night Net!   AF6C then aired the ARRL Audio News at 20:54:40 local time, and concluding at 21:13:17 local time.  (TNX, Bob)

 

 

9/15/2010 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in KE6YHX, W6HHC, W6UX, WB6IXN, WB9YCJ, and N1AB.  Last week, IXN & Lee were in the San Jacinto Mts., and W6ZE/AF6C checked in W6HHC and KE6YHX.  AF6C announced Friday nite Club meeting wid HHC & CJZ presenting a program on Digital Amateur TV…Bob is busy putting together the Sept. ‘RF’, and today, AF6C worked at the Braille Institute, meeting another volunteer.   HHC reminded all OPs abt the ARRL Convention in San Diego this weekend, and, the Club meeting Fri. eve., then, he and CJZ will be ready for the upcoming TAPR DATV presentation!...And Ken is back on 10m now that the vertical ant. has been re-erected.  UX, back from the Colorado vacation, enjoyed amateur repeaters on the trip, and near Ft. Collins, up 5000 ft, Jeff worked several DX stations, including North Ireland!...The new portable dipole worked vy well!  IXN reported very quiet Newport-Inglewood, northern Elsinore, and Southern San Andreas Faults.  YCJ prepares to catch ‘40 winks’ before going to work as Ken looks forward to the ARRL Convention come Saturday.

 

9/15/2010 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/WB6IXN checked in W6UX, W6GMU, N1AB, W6HHC, W6FKX, KG6MIH, K6DNR, KD6FKV, N8UZE, KR6J, WA6TWF, and KE6YHX…Great check-in, OPs!  IXN said that Tim, K6GEP, led him to ‘beachball’ diagrams fro earthquake analysis, and UX, back from the Utah-Wyoming-Colorado trip, mentioned a hamlog program for the I-Phone.  And AB said that www.repeaterbook.com will list repeaters along the way on your next trip!  YHX is investigating various TNC programs, needs a TNC cable, and is studying analog circuits for a seismometer.  GMU & IXN briefly discussed the bands in the Jovian atmosphere, and HHC welcomed Kevin, MIH, and ham family back to the Net…Kevin is a RACES member as of yesterday!...And HHC announced Fri. Club meeting!  FKX is back in the classroom preparing geology fieldtrips to Owens Valley, Mammoth, and Death Valley, and, tnx to AF6C’s repair reference, Doug will get the Kenwood rig repaired.   KD6FKV, Kurt, checked in frm Simi Valley using a ½ gallon on a 20  element beam…Great sigs, ofcourse!  Bob, K6DNR, ‘flew in & flew out’, and UZE may see the OM back in CA soon if he is out of work…Dee is still arranging the new QTH.  N1AB had coffee wid a ham that he thought was FKX!...Hm!...Who was the real OP!  It was good to hear WA6TWF, SuperSystem, mobile at the 5 to 57 intersection, and KR6J, nearing the end of the bike racing season, plans bike repairs soon, and if a ‘new Kenan’ arrives on the scene, further bike racing will be further in the future!    KR6J will be in the Multiple Sclerosis Bike Ride, on Oct. 16 – 17, to collect funds for further research…Any donations will be greatfully accepted!

 

9/22/2010 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in W6HHC, KE6YHX, WB6IXN, N1AB, and N6HC.  AF6C volunteered at the Braille Institute repairing Audio Books today, and Bob said friend, Mark, works the OSCAR satellites…Then AF6C, YHX, and HHC all discussed RS-232 cable connections between a computer and a GPS unit.  HHC tnxed AF6C fer the photos of the DATV presentation at the OCARC meeting, and OPs at the ARRL Convention in San Diego missed a G-R-E-A-T presentation!  Now HHC & CJZ will present a DATV talk wid the TAPR Conference in Portland, OR, via SKYPE come Saturday!  HHC also got the rig up & running in the T-Bird last Sunday.  IXN read a short quip from Sirius Astronomer on solar magnetic field dragging vs the Sunspot Cycle.  N1AB was down in the QRN at IXN’s QTH, and HC & AF6C briefly discussed the upcoming Penn State vs Temple game, and Arnie voiced concern over lack of appreciation for religious holidays when scheduling events!

 

9/22/2010 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/WB6IXN checked in W6HHC, W6GMU, KE6YHX, N8UZE, WB9YCJ, AF6C, and KD9FKV.  Back in PA, HHC held the call W3MHI, and IXN was K3JFG!...In Feb, 1957, FCC no longer issued W3 calls!  FKV checked in agn on the 24-element beam from Simi Valley wid vy strong sigs at NC’s QTH, wid OPs in the Red Hill area & east unable to hear Curt!  GMU is still looking fer a tower fer the ant., and YHX commented on magnetic anomalies on the sun, got APRS running on the Mac last weekend, investigates circuit arrangements for seismometers, and wrestles wid an OP-amp problem.  YCJ checked in mobile, at Orange/State College,  on his way home from an Angels game, and AF6C & OPs enjoyed the DATV presentation at Club meeting last Fri. eve.  AF6C once agn put out the call fer volunteers to help service Audio Books at the Braille Institute, then Bob aired the ARRL Audio News for Sept. 16, 2010, at 21:07 hrs. local time…The ARRL Simulated Emergency Test will be on us soon…WA8FME & his students turn old TV dishes into radio Telescopes!...NY judge rules that an amateur HT is not a commercial communications device and not subject to cell phones use rules when driving…WRTC Rules will be announced as soon as they are finalized…Read more in the ARRL Letter on the ARRL website…Tnx, Bob!...ARRL Audio News concluded at 21:27 hrs. local time.

 

9/29/2010 10m Phone Net – W6ZE/AF6C checked in W6HHC, WB6IXN, KE6YHX, K6DNR, N6HC, and W6GMU.  PFA fell while wrestling a garbage can, and AF6C & DLA stopped by to see if Tommy was OK.  AF6C will be in Long Beach next Wed. and Bob asked OPs to handle the 10m Net.  HHC finished checking his email, and then Ken announced the upcoming O. C. RACES Communications Skill Drill this Saturday, where Robbie & Ken will attempt to communicate wid the OPD site by DATV from the Orange Hills.  HHC will be 10m Net NC next week, and YHX needs standoff spacers fer a project, and Corey will send HHC an email map of the college campus at Newport & Chapman.  DNR didn’t see any lightning in the cloud cover, but HC saw lightning off to the west from the QTH.  AF6C & HC briefly discussed the PSU/Temple game, and GMU, down in the QRN, will meet us all on 2m.

 

9/29/2010 2m Phone Net – W6ZE/WB6IXN checked in N8UZE, K6DNR, K6VDP, W6HHC, W6UX, AF6C, W6GMU, and AF6CF.  UZE is settled in at the new QTH, needing only a new sofa at present, and DNR joined the ‘wrong mike’ club, along wid HHC & IXN!  VDP plans to attend the Club Auction at next Club meeting, and Larry visited the Custom Car Show at the very warm OC Fairgrounds.  HHC plans to have the meeting room in the Red Cross Chitty Bldg. by 6:00 pm, Oct 15, fer the Club Auction setup…NOW IS THE TIME TO GO THROUGH THE SHACK LOOKING FOR AUCTION ITEMS!!  HHC said that Skip, K7JA, will be the auctioneer!  UX has been very busy bike riding, and Jeff plans to work the Cal. QSO Party this weekend.  Nicholas, CF, UX, and OPs on the Thursday nite 2m net plan to discuss the upcoming Club ‘Weekend in the Park’ event Nov 6.…GMU said this is ARRL Sweepstakes weekend so bring along some CW gear!...AF6C said there was more info on the Club website.  AF6C then aired the ARRL Audio News for Nov. 23, 2010 at 20:56 hrs. local time…OPs have been busy wid emergency communications this past summer…9 tropical storms & 4 hurricanes!...wid the storm season continuing thru Nov 30!...Sunspot count is up to 40!...ARRL Audio News concluded at 21:14 hrs. local time…TNX, Bob!
